BREAKING NEWS: TUCKER CARLSON IS OUT. WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
Tucker Carlson is out at Fox, but it doesn't mean we're out of the woods yet by any stretch of the imagination
The story of how Tucker Carlson became the most-watched host on cable news is fascinating. This is an individual who has worked for all three major networks and has, at every stop, both completely changed himself and remained, underneath it all, the exact same. He is as dangerous as anybody in the media ecosystem and equally as influential.
And now, he’s gone from Fox News.
Word that Carlson has left FNC hit the wires this Monday and reverberated quickly and loudly. Following the $700 million dollar settlement between Fox and Dominion Voting Systems, there was sure to be something of a reckoning, whether small or symbolic, within Fox’s walls, but it’s unclear yet where this development falls into that category.
There are too many unanswered questions at the moment, but we need to both look at what those questions are while preparing for where this might take us. This has major consequences for all of us, including the election window for 2024, the future of the Republican Party, the media system, generational trends, and, well, our general safety as authoritarianism grows and spreads.
What follows are some quick, rapid-fire reactions regarding what I’m thinking at the moment and what I’m going to be watching for in the new few days and weeks and months.
