I'd bet the "watch and wait" advocates are the same people who pushed or bought into "wait for midterms," "wait for Mueller," "wait for Jack Smith," etc. Rather than developing any kind of plan or forming an actual resistance, this is all the Democratic politicians and their media lackeys seem to have. They're helpless and feeble against the right, but when it comes to punching left, they still have plenty of juice. The new thing with Gavin Newsom and "2028's gonna be lit" is just...I can't.

I was shocked at people rallying around last night hoping beyond hope. People with the president's conditions, with the level of health care he has, can live a very long time.
working on a plan and resistence is much better and more constructive.
Thank you. The dotting and crossing people were the worst. I was always trying to figure out which ones were astroturfed and which ones were just duped into being true believers. I mean, there were people literally saying, "They need to let him do more crimes, so they can catch him red handed."
Yeah, hope isn't a plan. If he is indeed deceased, great. But we will still need to deal with Thiel's puppet and the rest of the cabal. It would be a good opportunity for Democrats to capitalize on the chaos and the VP's utter lack of charisma. So they'll probably blow it. Too many of them obviously want this. Anything, anything at all but socialism.
Agreed. The only way The Machine slows and grinds to a halt is if we, all of us, stop feeding it with our money, our attention, right down to our clicks and looks. But, when I've suggested to smart people even the notio of never againfunneling cash or attention through Bezos or Zuck, there's more excuses than you'd get from a 'dry' drunk when suggesting he just pour that poison down the drain. The Machine, and the fuel that's become the actual deity* we most worship in the West is running the tables. We're leaving the pool hall with our pockets emptied.

The two problems I see with this are: 1) this administration, and presumably the pro-Yarvin oligarchs behind it, want to crash the economy, so boycotts and strikes don't necessarily have the leverage they might; and 2) no one wants to be the first to go, and we have zero national resistance leadership.
Oh, gosh, I don't disagree at all there, SF. Sarah Kendzior cites a DJT speech back in '14, I think, where he states exactly that intent, to wreck the eonomy. My refusing to participate in this techbro 'utopian dream' they have, is as much for my sanity as hoping to change their behavior, or to 'save The Economy'. And to your further point, not only do I see Zero opposition leadership, I see zero citizen resilience or self-reliance. We've all been 'trained' for decades to be dependant upon our 'needs' being met at a swipe. And,to tbat point, there's nobody that 'knows their knots' anymore, either. Thanks for your note.
Yes, I know exactly the quote you're referring to, having followed Sarah for many years and read her books. And I agree, very few people are even aware of what's happening, let alone prepared (as much as one can be) for what's coming down the pike. Personally, I'm looking at relocating to a more agrarian culture in a nation that took back its democracy. There are no guarantees anywhere, but I don't see a good end to this in my lifetime. I actually don't see a good end to this for generations. I have to plan for the most likely outcomes, not the ones I hope will happen.
So many of us (myself included) get a bit giddy at the thought of Trump's demise but what you say is true Jared. Damn, if the reigns of power fully rest in the hands of the tech oligarchs through their puppet Vance, that slippery slope that the US is on now gets a pile of oil thrown upon it and its a fast nose dive down into full fascism. Not that the US isn't already right there. As a Canadian, I'm so fearful for the many decent Americans who aren't that differnt from us and what will happen to them. I'm equally worried about what this is going to mean for us as your neighbours. We are very concerned about what our former friends are going to eventually do to us.
Agree, Trump is merely one snake on Medusa's head. I'm cool with losing one snake, as I'm an any-port-in-a-storm kind of gal, but it would obviously be better to get rid of Medusa entirely. Having done most of my uni in Canada, and considering it a second home country, I'm fearful too. I worry about Putin trying to divide NATO with a European attack if the MAGA regime tries anything north of the border. I suspect he and Trump talked about more than mail-in ballots in Alaska. He's another snake that needs dispatching and forthwith.
Hi Jared, do you plan to speak with Sarah Kendzior again anytime soon? You and she are among my favorite Cassandras (Danielle as well, I really look forward to the Check In every week) and a convo between you two would be a balm. There are so many moderates with so many ways to say “we’re fucked” but don’t realize that they’ve been part of the problem all along. “The system is fucked, what’s happening is unconscionable, but here’s our chance to build something better” is a much more poignant message. (And I don’t mean that in the tired “we need better messaging” sense.)
Ourselves…. We the people…. I am so pleased that Jared speaks to the need to address the post tRump ecosystem… the systems that grew the MAGA movement, the systems that support the starvation of children in Gaza, the systems that diminish human rights and profit from human suffering. We have a lot of work ahead whether the current POS POTUS is above ground or six feet under. I grew up with Saturday morning cartoons on TV - BC (Before Computers). I loved the snappy jingle used by Mighty Mouse… “Here I come to save the day….” I have always believed that two heads are better than one, three is better than two… so together let’s remember … 🎶🎼🎵”Here we are to save ourselves!”
His death (when it happens) should be rightly celebrated as the passing of a cancer on the human body but he is only the visible eruption of the rot. He's been the useful idiot for the Christo-fascists and tech oligarchs and neoliberal wealth class and THOSE are the roots that must be dug up and burned. Tim Winton's Juice walks us out to the end if we don't or aren't capable of doing this. It's not pretty.
