Odds & Ends: Bourbon Talk Livestream TONIGHT, The Stakes, The Midnight Kingdom Lecture Series

Hey everyone, happy Sunday.

Just wanted to send a quick note letting everyone know about a few things. First and foremost, tonight, January 21st, at 8pm eastern, I’ll be hosting my first Bourbon Talk Political Q&A Livestream in over six months.

If you’ve tuned in before, you know the score. But for those who haven’t, I’ll open a bottle of bourbon at 8pm eastern, on the dot, and answer your questions until there isn’t any left. I’m happy to talk about any current events, future concern, or historical topic, just make sure and respond to this post or email me at jysexton@gmail.com with what you want me to cover. These are good, good times, and I think it’s a great thing to come together as a community, especially when things are feeling tough.

The Stakes Part III is in the works and will concern how our media, commentariat, and political leaders have gotten the MAGA / authoritarian threat so wrong. We’ll delve into exactly this whole mess has been exacerbated by the very people who were supposed to deter and prevent it from ever happening in the first place. The final installment of The Midnight Kingdom Lecture Series on YouTube is in production. This is a video series based on my book The Midnight Kingdom: A History of Power, Paranoia, and the Coming Crisis (which has been getting a lot of interest lately as it, well, helps explain just what the hell is going on). I love doing these videos, and it seems like you enjoy them as well, I just struggle with production elements. Hopefully that will get better over time, because it seems like they reach people we wouldn’t otherwise. Part I covers the merging of Christianity and white-supremacist power, Part II shows how capitalism made the modern world an exploitative mess, Part III details the relationship between the United States and Fascism/Nazism, and how that carried over beyond World War II, and Part IV follows the rise of the American Empire and how America served as the perfect host to incubate capitalism’s next evolution: neoliberal globalism.
