Here we are, the penultimate episode of The Midnight Kingdom Lecture Series: A New Empire.
In this installment, we’re in the modern world and navigating the fallout from World War II and the transfer of hegemonic power from Great Britain to the United States of America. Rather than turn their back on fascism and authoritarianism, America has created a novel new system in which antidemocratic factions and leaders are relegated to managerial positions in so-called “Second” and “Third” World countries in order to facilitate the cheap transfer of resources and keep down labor costs.
Within the U.S. the forces of capital and power are already aggressively attacking the New Deal coalition that saved capitalism from itself. The weapon is paranoia over the overblown threat of communism. People of color, women, and LGBTQ citizens are consistently attacked and marginalized, allowing the wealth class to regroup and then launch a counterattack that will change literally everything.
The volume documents the rise of neoliberalism that coincides with the construction of the American Empire, leading to trillions in redistributed wealth, a worsening outlook for regular people in America and abroad, and the beginnings of the crisis that has come to define our modern moment.

Though it has been a weird stretch and I’ve faced more than a few obstacles - including social media shadowbanning and attacks on myself and the book due to its critique of white Christian Nationalism - your support has meant everything to me. Thank you for continuing to be kind and have my back.
