Hey everybody! Just finished up the recording for The Midnight Kingdom: A History of Power, Paranoia, and the Coming Crisis’s audiobook. And listen, four days in the studio is EXHAUSTING. I’m going to spend the next couple of days letting my vocal cords chill out a bit, but I want to do a video Q&A Sunday before the Midterms.
So this is a call for any questions, topics, or concerns you might have going into the election. I know it’s a hard, tense time, so let’s get through it. Just reply to this post or shoot me an email at jysexton@gmail.com and I’ll get to them for Sunday’s video.
Also, on Tuesday, at 8pm eastern, The Muckrake Podcast and Democracy-ish will be teaming up for exclusive Election Night coverage. This is going to be tough in a lot of ways, so plan on coming out and being around some good people and getting actual analysis and commentary that isn’t, you know, completely oblivious to the situation at hand or devoid of any actual independent thought. I’ll send out further details on Monday, but I hope to see you out there.
In the meantime, if you haven’t already, please subscribe so you can get these additional shows and articles.
Thank you for doing this Jared! My question is about the midterm elections that we expect to show early Republican leads but as the pre-Nov 8 ballots are tallied, the Democrats will gain (such as the Fetterman race in PA). What’s the best advice on how we can combat the “See, Democrats cheated” noise that we know is coming in places where the early voter ballots are counted last? Thanks for all you do - I never miss a podcast!
Thank you, Jared, for doing both of these!!! My question or topic is about the comparison between what is playing out here with what has and is happening in Brazil. It appears that Brazil has a much simpler election system and, even with the voter intimidation and suppression, Lula was still elected. Unless there is a surprise, it looks like Bolsonaro is honoring the results even with all the advice to fight from his friends in the Trump organization. What do you make of this?? Do you think he was just not up for the fight or perhaps he thinks it is best to save his "honor" to run again??? Can we take any comparisons about our elections from Brazil? It seems to me that we are in worse shape than Brazil. I do not think most people know how bad this is likely to be in so many ways!!!!!
I am so grateful to be able join your community on Tuesday night. I am spreading the word with my friends and we are having a texting party as we watch your Election Night results. My husband will be in another room watching the Fox Propaganda results. Glad I will not be alone.
