This is the most honest, compelling reading I have seen regarding the state of affairs in America. It most certainly applies to all countries similar to the U.S. People just do not value the things that bring true fulfillment. I believe it's why many people are so materialistic...that owning more somehow can make one happier and content. Yet, it turns out that just instills the urge to acquire yet more and more. sort of like a junkie never quite reaching that first high again no matter how often they use or how much the dose is increased.
My compass is spinning. I value my home and nature and family more than anything. I try to help others who need help, and it gives me great pleasure to do so. I think I'm on the right track, but I fear the changes you speak of will be something I'll never witness. I don't think the 'new set of eyes' you speak of is new, it's just that not enough humans want to use that vision. I think those in countries who have lost everything to war and aggression see better than the rest. I don't think the views of Americans, or people of other 'civilized, advanced' nations will change until they've experienced what those people have.
So true I think. I see a lot of perhaps toxic, positivity-fear of or discomfort with feeling anything but happy. Does that come from deep seated guilt about being lucky or privileged? It wearies me. We are human. We feel. I don’t like people telling me how or what to feel. And the more I’ve distanced myself from it, the more content I am with quiet and less of stuff.
We are now in the same position as the German people found themselves as Hitler rose to power. We are going to have the same choices to make - doing what is right or what is expedient; taking a stand against injustice or looking away and pretending not to notice.
Excellent!!! In spiritual paths that actually have substance, symptoms are separated from cause. Symptoms are seen as the weather vanes of causes. One looks into the symptoms and searches for indicators of cause and effect. The point of this exercise is healing. Healing a symptom only temporarily solves a problem. Healing a cause effects real change. Some spiritual paths refer to this as "shadow work". Shadow work is being willing to admit that maybe you aren't as perfect as you thought and maybe you need to take an honest inventory of your beliefs, thoughts, actions, and deeds. Through shadow work, one redefines what is "right and "wrong". Where previously someone might have considered their interactions with others as "right" a careful examination of how you affect others might open your mind to seeing your actions as actually wrong.
This is exactly what this country needs to exercise. Trump is simply pushing the symptoms of our collective delusions to the brink so that we can make the necessary adjustments. This won't come through civil and social laws because they are anchored in years and years of colonial power structuring. We will need to drop our institutional allegiance to the false premise that we are the "greatest country in the world" and come to our senses. This is already in motion. More and more people are waking up and seeing that we are maybe not what we've been told. As Celeste says, maybe nature and our relationship to our environment needs to rise above our petty materialistic obsessions and addictions. Maybe we need to look into Earth Medicine and the ancient civilizations of the Americas to find our authentic self. This is going to be a rough road, but the country still has the "right stuff". We just need to start applying it.
I have been hearing a lot: “we should all worry about this because it could happen to anyone/us.” Such pathetic messaging reflecting what? That everyone only cares if it might or does affect them? We should care about it in and of itself. A person has been gravely wronged and is in a horrific situation. Period. We should care about that.
