Part of me takes a tiny bit of pleasure in the magical thinking that these movements (and others that might be floating around) will balkanize themselves out to oblivion. The bigger, more realistic part of me is ready to pack it in and move to another part of the world because this is all so soul-crushing and exhausting...but that assumes that there's any place that has been untouched by this insanity (suggestions welcome).
This is why I left the Catholic Church almost immediately after my confirmation, which was only done to appease my mother.
