Thank you for your comments this morning, Jared. I even took notes so I can return to some of the points you made. I have a number of reactions. First, I am sorry to hear that you suffered childhood trauma, as well as later trauma. Second, you are the same age as one of my sons. Third, I have experienced "never being enough", both in my career and in my personal relationships. I don't put myself in that situation anymore, rather surrounding myself with people who accept me as I am. Fourth, I have internal "masters" who tell me that I am not good enough (eg, not slim enough, not talented enough, etc.). In 2023 I will work on clearing out that long-term debris that has a hold on me. Fifth, I find that helping others provides relief and satisfaction. There are countless ways to help others every day. Sixth, becoming politically active has given me a purpose and a means to improve this world for my children and others. I am a member of a community that writes postcards to voters around the country. Thank you again for sharing your journey with us.
Currently reading Gabor Mate’s “The Myth of Normal”, so hearing you talk for 33 minutes today was perfect timing. No one I know or distills so much confusing information down to pattern level so one can take positive action.
We are really looking forward to following your journey and watching for how we can contribute to it. I’ll begin today by sharing it with allies with whom I feel safe.
Excited about your ketamine trials; I would be interested in a review of you experience. I have addictive tendencies, so I’m waiting to see what therapies are working for what issues and allow the medical facilitators (therapist etc) to incorporate it into their practice.
great post - thank you for being so open. too many are made to feel something is wrong with them - be it in jobs, advertisement, family. i agree that 2023 is going to be a pivotal year and we need to all get involved however we can to make changes. people are tired - i just retired and i was surprised at the number of coworkers many years younger who wish they were there - they are just exhausted. they keep falling into trap of the extra hours and bad behavior by others and such.
Those of us who are women, people of color, disabled, or LGBTQ and many others have always understood that the world is constructed to make us feel like we are not okay. I am glad that you are letting others who have not woken up to this because they "pass" as "normal" that they need to wake up now.
