I've never been one for joining groups. I'm an introvert and quite happy to be alone or around a small group of friends. Since the day after the election, my wife and I have been looking for any ways we could get involved with other to help out. We joined our local Democratic club which is small as we are in a very red area (District 6 Florida). We helped out with Josh Weil during his primary for the special election to replace Mike Waltz. I'm not sure if what we did made a difference, but being around like-minded people and *DOING* something certainly helped both of us.

This Wednesday we drove to Tallahassee to participate in the 50501 protest organized on Reddit. Protesting isn't my thing, but it felt good when many of the passersby showed support. I do feel like this made some difference as it was aired on quite a few local channels and Maddow had a clip of during her opening Wed night.

Jared is correct. We need to organize and fight this together.

This is good to read. I take it as an example of us getting fired up enough to come out of helplessness to do whatever anyone can do.

Mass boycotts on S*per B*wl Sunday:

1) Stay off F*cebook, Inst*gram, Tw*tter, T*kT*k for 24 hours starting at 12 am Sunday 2/9

2) Do NOT watch the S*per B*wl on any media

These actions of silence hit them right in their wallets because the event and entire day draws HUGE engagement and skyrocketed ad revenue for them. If we're not there, they get hit hard financially and we send a message of what our collective power can and will do.

BONUS: We'd be using their technology against them. With monthly targeted one-day boycotts of social media on other high engagement and financially important days we have the potential to cause tens of billions of dollars in lost ad revenues and hundreds of millions in stock price losses over a year. And our international supporters can join us.

Here's the TLDR version:

Boycotting F*cebook and Inst*gram (with others when relevant)

Objective:

To execute global monthly one-day strikes on F*cebook and Inst*gram. The strikes will be strategically timed to maximize the impact on M*ta's revenue and stock price.

Target Audience:

Focus on left-leaning users globally, with a heavier concentration in the United States.

Aim for at least 33 million users participating in each one-day strike.

User Breakdown:

U.S. Users: 5.43 million (10% of U.S. left-leaning users)

Global Users (excluding U.S.): 27.57 million (4.27% of global left-leaning users)

Timing:

Strikes will be held on high-impact dates each month, focusing on periods of high user engagement and financial significance for M*ta.

Potential Impact:

An estimated $15.96 billion revenue loss and $639 million stock price impact over 12 strikes.

Suggested Monthly Strike Dates for 2025:

February 9: S*per B*wl Sunday (high engagement) and/or

February 14: Valentine's Day (high engagement)

March 31: End of Q1 (financial significance)

April 30: End of Q1 Earnings Report (financial significance)

May 31: Annual General Meeting (financial significance)

June 30: End of Q2 (financial significance)

July 4: Independence Day (high engagement)

August 12: International Youth Day (global significance)

September 2: Labor Day (high engagement)

October 29: Q3 Earnings Report (financial significance)

November 28: Thanksgiving (high engagement)

December 31: New Year's Eve (high engagement)

Why M*ta?

M*ta's immense wealth and global monopoly have bought them significant political influence, posing a threat to democracy, security, and planetary survival. By targeting M*ta, the aim is to challenge the tech oligarchy's power and advocate for a more equitable digital landscape.

Conclusion:

This proposal outlines a strategic plan for executing monthly one-day strikes on F*cebook and Inst*gram to leverage user power and drive meaningful change. By targeting high-impact dates and maximizing participation, we can create a substantial financial and reputational impact on M*ta.

One problem is no leaders. All gadflies. So, there is no place to get directions to cooperate. Who is leading this parade?

I'm just a rebel standing in front of other rebels asking us to just not go on social media or watch the game on Sunday. That's kinda all the directions there are.

Indivisible appears to be emerging in a leadership role -- their structure with a centralized national and local chapters seems to be effective and what is needed to accomplish Jared's call to be ready at a moment's notice. They have been providing timely action items at both national and local levels -- doable actions supported with useful tools.

There is so much to be done, but I'm committed to taking it step by step, day by day. See you on the barricades ;-)

“We know the political class will either capitulate or collaborate with the exception of a handful of outliers.”

They capitulated and collaborated from the moment Trump was elected. There are a very few that have not and I believe will not, capitulate. We, the People, are the only ones who will save us.

We need a complete overhaul of who is in Congress. The majority have to go.

Another thing: stop signing online petitions! They are worth their weight in electrons. That is, worthless! Petitions are just another distraction that nobody but those signing will ever read.

Instead, take a couple of neighbors out to coffee. Think together about how resistance might be created in your town or neighborhood. And then come up with a few more “coffee lovers” to extend your rebellion. That’s how it can start.

I'm a senior citizen who can't risk being beaten by the police. In my physical condition, that would likely put me in a wheelchair. I'm on narcotics for life for that reason. I'm willing to write on my substack and BlueSky, as well as supporting boycotts, but that's about all I can do. One does what one is capable of.

WTF? it looks the protest was peaceful until the law started their rodney king and george floyd tactics. especially the dude with the gun. he was just waiting to shoot someone. were guns really necessary?

My concern is that, The Don, in one of his first executive orders used language taken directly from the posse comitatus act (Act). If people protest, he will declare a national emergency, martial law and implement the Act unleashing the "law and military" on the protestors. Just remember what the cop with the gun said with a smiling face, "the protest was peaceful until the protesters attacked the "troopers.""

I did not see all of what the professor did/said but from what was shown she did not need to be thrown to the ground with a knee in her back. The dude with the gun just smiled and kept his finger close to the trigger.

I do not know much about software/computers but the amount of time that has elapsed seems to suggest that elon and his techbros have caused damage that could take years if not decades to correct. These are the people hired to prevent computer hacks; now the are making this systems hack proof.

Lawsuits and laws will have little or no effect. Remember, The Don sat is his Mara Lago shitter while he read classified document, declassified in his head, while he wiped his ass with constitution.

US publishing house has decided to publish official reports into sensitive matters in US politics and history against the backdrop of a new Donald Trump administration committed to a radical rightwing agenda of reshaping American government and fiercely aggressive against its opponents, especially in the media.

The publisher, Melville House, will on Tuesday release The Jack Smith Report, a print and ebook edition of the special counsel’s summation of his investigation of Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

Later in February, the company will then publish another report the Department of Justice issued shortly before Trump returned to power, concerning the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921.

This is a good post. Mass action will be required. But the only action that will work in the end is action that is driven by average Americans becoming strongly disturbed by actual actions of Boss Trump and/or his Muskreants. We “early adapters/reacters need to be out front and loud. But we can’t win without middle America. So don’t try stuff like asking people to boycott the Super Bowl. Both a waste of time and of good will.

Just be vigilant and present as much as possible in calling out and confronting the outrageous things that are happening to everyday people everyday as the result of the indiscriminate destruction being caused by the current bliztzkreig.

Who knows but that Trump will do something so evil that even his followers would join a strike. I think more nuanced thoughts, though, about what we-the-people could do, and this week I wrote a What If about some major ones:
