A compilation of a recent Twitter thread detailing the relationship between capitalism in crisis, fascism, conspiracy theories, and the religious-ization of exploitation
I have been following you for several years now and I’ve read all your books. I think you have a brilliant mind. …And I have had a wondering that I’d like to share with you.
Have you considered presenting your observations in the vein of a natural understandable course of nature? One that everyone was understandably caught up in, but one that we now see doesn’t work for the whole of us or the planet. It is time that we come together in new ways and evolve onward, together.
What concerns me is that by turning ‘them’ into an evil bitter enemy, we are playing right into the current paradigm of hate, and we only energize and embolden those who are wed to the status quo of liberal capitalism.
We need a new way to think about all of this. While much of what you say is true, the blaming of it on the evilness of an enemy is really us buying into their whole scene. What if we view it as an understandable course of events that now needs to change because it just simply doesn’t work?
While greed and evilness certainly plays a part, I’m not sure it tells the important heart of the story. For example, I’m wondering if a kid, born into wealth, may not really feel they have a lot of choice either, (at least in their own minds) and rather mindlessly ends up on a pathway holding onto what he has (the blinding fear of fathers is a real thing). Not every rich person is born smart, talented and insightful. This is not terribly different from the poor kid who feels they grow up without a choice, and who naturally falls onto a pathway of holding on to what he has, by any means available. Not every poor person is born smart, talented and insightful.
I have had quite a bit of luck in my work using the tool, “looking back at whose fault it was doesn’t get us very far (look but don’t stare), now how do we move forward together?” It frees everyone to think creatively and positively. I know it may not feel very strong, but I really wonder if it isn’t the necessary shift needed at the societal level as well? And it may well be possible, especially with brilliant minds working on it.
You have a brilliant mind, and a sincere following of good minds, I just worry that hate is being perpetuated.
