I so appreciated what you said about a second Biden term just slowing down the march towards autocracy and, if that is our choice, we need vote for it as we remain open to another way. It does not feel good to see that truth, but we must in order to be open to something new.

Thank you, Jared, for leading the way. You are a light in the darkness!🌞

The political machine, the oligarchs, the whole system. Overdue for a shattering. True representative democracy means destroying the electoral college, implementing actual checks and balances for those who aspire to high office, and reducing inequality so that the 1% and the 99% no longer exist. Billionaires are an abomination, and so are fake billionaires.

Thanks for this. I'm seeing in our prestige media an effort to sell us a "dissatisfied restaurant patron" outlook on this election, selecting quotes from voters who don't like the choice but never have anything more to say that that, or if they do have something to say, it's some ignorant, shallow complaint about "the government" or "Washington politicians." Basically, the take is that we're nothing more than consumers, fill out a complaint form, and no, you will NOT be talking to our manager.

What's missing is any idea of us, of ordinary people, as actors, as citizens, as a force capable of doing anything more than complaining. Never interview anyone who has an analysis deeper than "Waaah, this sucks" or activists who are organizing and have a plan. So, you know, the same shit they've always sold us.

There was an article in the Boston Globe that took the "dissatisfied patron" angle just like you alluded to. These articles don't help. I tried to read it, but quit after one paragraph. Cynical, lazy journalism.

Yeah, I wonder, if the reporter ran into someone who said, "Well, I like the climate-change provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, but I'm really angry at how Biden is supporting Israel's bombing of Gaza", would they use that quote? Or would they decide it doesn't fit, because our only purpose in a story like that, as mere citizens, is to provide raw emotion? Anything more thoughtful, any kind of analysis, that's what we have experts for.

I think you're being much, much too kind to Barack Obama. He's a status quo politician if there ever was one.

I think we had some hopes, but when he stacked his Cabinet with a bunch of financiers and installed Rahm What's-his-name, the chips were down and he clearly wasn't going to work for any kind of change.
