While the Democratic Party is failing us in leadership, there are other places to begin organizing. Basically, any group willing and able to gather people together to discuss the coming (here already) crisis. Unions, progressive churches (I continue to believe there are some), professional associations, .... We must get over our fear of discussing political issues in public. Sure, there will be disagreements. There will be arguments. There may be splits. But the time to fight back is now. And I believe we will find effective ways to stop the MAGA coup in its tracks.

Not disputing the seriousness of your post or the cause for concern, just think the low turnout rate seems key to note. It'll be interesting to see what happens in other upcoming state caucuses where bitter cold temps aren't a factor. Also, it's lily white Iowa. 😬
We could be witnessing the birth of a terrorist movement: They can't win elections any more, so in frustration they turn to truck-bombings. But at the same time. "They can't win elections any more" would be a significant win for the forces of basic human decency, and seems within our reach this year. That's where I'll be focusing my efforts, anyway.
The orange charlatan and his followers baffle me. If they want a fight, they'll get it. Seems like they do. If we can't win via the electoral college system (broken), violence is coming. People have every right to defend themselves against the aggression we have seen from the cult. Fight the fash.
In light of post Oct 7th, the amount of democrats that have seen Palestinian protesting and decided to vote for Trump has left me jaw dropped. Democrats that hate Trump, all of a sudden are willing to vote for him
Thank you Jared. When I started reading your Midnight Kingdom book, I told my husband, this is the book I had been looking for. It gave me answers, some very shocking about how the things we face now are happening. I'm ready to fight as I'm old, and it seems the Mafia, Oligarchs have tried to take over our country. Actually, they did before January 6, 2023. Our government is still too timid to put Trump in prison. 91 or 92 crimes....most people like me think if it were us, we would be behind bars before the judge said court adjourned.
