I've taken to looking at all that we have done (and all that we continue to do) as an addiction that we need to free ourselves from in order to survive. And time. I think a lot about time. So, I've quit all social media, and used the energy and time that I've gotten back -- which is quite substantial -- to immerse myself in terrific, thought-sparking writing like yours. Thank you, as ever.

To borrow (heavily) from Caitlin Flanagan's recent Atlantic piece, and for that matter Simone Weil's "On the Abolition of All Political Parties," replace the word "parties" with "capitalism" as below:

“The mere fact that capitalism exists today is not in itself sufficient a reason for us to preserve it. The only legitimate reason for preserving anything is its goodness. The evils of capitalism are all too evident; therefore, the problem that should be examined is this: Does it contain enough good to compensate for its evils and make its preservation desirable?”

I say no.

I need coffee. I am exhausted. And I am ready to burn it all down to the ground.

new subscriber. very thought provoking article. i had not thought of it this way - just very unsettled with the status quo. it will be so hard to make changes within this system; those with the wealth and opportunities will not want it changed.
